RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To evaluate the state of the gingival stromal elements in the portion of the third molars requiring extraction of these teeth due to orthodontic indications considering the stage of tooth germ formation. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: The surgery to extract third molars due to orthodontic indications was performed on 95 children aged 11 to 18 years. The three groups of observation were isolated according to clinical-radiological signs: І (n=30) - children aged 11-13 years; ІІ (n=35) - children aged 13-16 years, and ІІІ (n=30) - children aged 16-18 years. During surgery, the samples of gums were taken from the adjacent areas for examination. The samples were fixed, dehydrated, paraffinized for further histological processing. Immunohistochemical methods were used according to the protocols supplied by a producer. In particular, by means of immunohistochemical method, Ki-67, CD-34 antigens and vimentin with primary antibodies against them were determined. The primary antibodies were visualized by the polymeric visualization system with diaminobenzidine giving a brown color to the places of location of the antigens examined. The data obtained were statistically processed. RESULTS: Results: The results of the study showed that specific gravity of the vascular bed in the gingival papillary layer of children was the most variable. It ranges from (12,7±0,09) % at the stage of "D" root formation to (54,8±0,17) % at the "H" stage. Lower concentrations of CD-34 antigens and vimentin are found in the endotheliocytes of children aged 13-16 and 16-18 years, compared to the children aged 11-13 years (p<0,05). No changes were found in the specific volume of the blood vessels, CD-34 antigens and vimentin in the reticular gingival layer of children from the groups of observation. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Therefore, the conducted histological and immunohistochemical study of the connective gingival tissues in the portion of the third molars in children enables to draw a conclusion that in the process of formation of the root of this tooth a number of changes occur in the gingival stroma. They include an increase of the blood flow volume in the papillary gingival layer on the background of a decreased concentration of CD-34 genes and vimentin, a longer stage of development of the third molar root. The specific volume of the islets of neoangiogenesis of the papillary gingival layer is the largest in children aged 13-16 years.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To study changes of dental biofilm microbiota composition during experimental opioid exposure, after its withdrawal and when using of complex drug correction.. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: Microbiological studies (48 rats) included microscopic and bacteriological methods, as well as determination of antibiotic susceptibility of microbial isolates. Ceftriaxone and pentoxifylline were used to correction the changes. RESULTS: Results: The action of opioid for 10 weeks caused considerable changes in the microbiocenosis, which was illustrated by a significant increasing of the opportunistic pathogens quantitative indicators and the emergence of pathogenic microbiota. Changes in the microbiocenosis at 6 weeks of opioid exposure and after its withdrawal for 4 weeks were expressed in the appearance of pathogenic microbiota and the absence of significant differences in quantitative indicators of saprophytic and opportunistic microflora compared to similar indicators in animals with 10 weeks opioid exposure. This indicated a slow progression of dysbiotic changes and the inflammatory process in the oral cavity of rats. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: After 10 weeks of experiment with opioid administration for 6 weeks and the use of ceftriaxone and pentoxifylline on the background of 4-week opioid withdrawal, a significant reduction of quantitative indicators of opportunistic bacteria and elimination of pathogenic species of microorganisms was determined. The use of complex drug correction on the background of 10 weeks of opioid exposure led to a significant reduction in the quantitative indicators of opportunistic pathogens and contributed to the elimination of most pathogenic species of microbiota under the action of ceftriaxone.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To find out the age remodeling of the structural components of the prostate gland at alcohol poisoning using quantitative morphological analysis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: The structure of the prostate gland of 4 white male rats groups were morphologically investigated. The 1 group included 30 control intact animals aged 8 months, the 2-nd group - 30 rats aged 24 months, the 3-rd group - 30 8-month-old animals with ethanol intoxication, and the 4-th group included 30 24-month-old rats with the specified simulated pathology. Ethanol intoxication was modeled by intragastric administration of 30% ethyl alcohol solution at a dose of 20 ml/kg once daily for 28 days. Rats were euthanized by bloodletting under general thiopental anesthesia 28 days after the beginning of the experiment. The area of glands, the height of glandular epithelial cells, the area of their nuclei and cytoplasm, the nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio in these cells and the stromal-parenchymal ratio in the organ were studied using light microscopy and were determined morphometrically. Morphometric parameters were processed statistically. RESULTS: Results: It was established that with age in the intact prostate of laboratory sexually mature white male rats, the area of glands, the height of glandular epitheliocytes, the area of their nuclei and cytoplasm, with the stability of nuclear-cytoplasmic ratios in the epithelial cells of the glands, significantly decreases, and the stromal-parenchymal ratio in the organ under study increases. Long-term ethanol poisoning leads to pronounced structural changes in the prostate, which is characterized by pronounced atrophy of the glandular epithelium, a decrease in the area of the glands, a decrease in the height of epithelial cells, a violation of nuclear-cytoplasmic relations in them, an increase in stromal-parenchymal ratio, and a prominent growth of the muscle-elastic stroma. The revealed structural changes of the studied components of the prostate dominated in 24-month-old experimental animals. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Morphological analysis of the prostate gland established that morphometric and morphological changed significantly according to the age and were depend on the ethanol poisoning.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim is to analyze the possibilities of using the electronic system Moodle for the formation of professional and terminological competence of medical students during the study of terminological competence for improving the quality of medical education. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: The research used a number of scientific methods: general scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization), specific research and others which ensured the selection and analysis of the source base, made it possible to determine the general trends in the study of the problem of using the electronic system Moodle for the formation of professional and terminological competence of medical students during the study of terminological competence for improving the quality of medical education. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: At I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University we actively use the e-learning system Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Distance Learning Environment), to which there is free and unrestricted access. Using this program, the student takes on the role of an active subject who independently acquires knowledge, forms his/her own system of skills, of course with the help of certain sources, and the role of the teacher in this scheme is to motivate and suport learners, prepare information sources used in self-study, etc. This is due to a significant increase in the requirements for quality training of future specialists n the medical field and market conditions in Ukraine, which set before the higher school the task of training specialists of the new generation who would be highly qualified, competitive, literate, and have perfect command of their professional terminology. The Moodle system is able to optimize the learning process, promote the formation of terminological competence and master professional vocabulary. When creating educational and methodological complexes for the formation of terminological competence, the means of teaching, as well as the ways of presenting educational material and the principles of organizing the educational activities of students become important. The electronic platform Moodle, which has a wide range of resources for teaching and testing, is able to expand the communicative competencies and skills of students needed to effectively master professional Latin terminology. The Moodle system has the optimal set of resource opportunities for the implementation of blended learning - classroom and extracurricular, which is its main advantage.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim is to analyze patients with acute myocardial infarction with reduced ejection fraction in order to determine risk factors for mitral insufficiency. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study included 149 patients with acute myocardial infarction. Among the patients, there were 113 males (75.8%) and 36 females (24.2%). The age of the patients ranged from 43 to 86 years. Echocardiography was performed using a Phillips Epiq 7 machine. Patients were examined three times: upon admission to the hospital, after revascularization, and six months after discharge. Patients received transthoracic echocardiography, which was used to determine the presence and degree of mitral regurgitation. RESULTS: Results: According to the results of the study, it was found that the presence of concomitant somatic pathology worsens the course of an acute myocardial infarction, in turn increasing the likelihood of valvular pathology. An increase in left ventricular volume indicators, such as end-diastolic volume, end-systolic volume, end-diastolic index, and the index of contractile function (ejection fraction) contributes to the development of mitral valve insufficiency. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The presence of mitral regurgitation in patients with acute myocardial infarction and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction worsens the course of the disease and negatively affects the prognosis.

RESUMEN

Competition in the modern pentathlon in the new 2024 Olympic program are tense and high intensity. Before reaching the final the athlete must go through 8 types of events in 4 days performs before 5 events in final competitions. It's quit difficult to restore the function of damaged link of the musculoskeletal system during competition in a short time. The time of breaks for rest and recovery in the competitive activity of an all-around athlete in the modern pentathlon is limited. The presented rehabilitation program after an acute injury was implemented at modern pentathlon competitions. A distinctive feature of the effects is the practice of rehabilitation and recovery after physical exertion. The peculiarity was in short periods of rest during intense multi-day competitive activity. There was a clear organization in the procedures, a strict sequence of methods and techniques. The presented material rather as an exception confirms the possibilities of the applied systemic rehabilitation techniques. This made it possible to continue competitive activity in modern pentathlon after an acute injury without compromising the athlete's health.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To analyze the results of inflammatory and immunological parameters of the oral cavity after cystectomy with different methods of connecting the edges of the operated area. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The research was conducted in 87 patients who sought surgical treatment of odontogenic cysts of the jaws. Patients were divided into groups depending on the method of wound closure after surgery. We analyzed the results of laboratory tests (leukocytes, ESR, IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-8, NO synthase, MMP-9). RESULTS: Results: The analysis of the effectiveness of using different methods of approximation of the oral mucosa wound on inflammatory and immunological pa¬rameters showed that when using welding of the edges of the operated area using the EKVZ-300 "Patonmed" apparatus, we get positive results of laboratory indicators of inflammatory markers faster (leukocyte counts are normal on day 30, ESR, IL-1ß - on the 14th day, TNF-α - on the 7th day, IL-6, IL-8, NO synthase, MMP-9 - on the 30th day), that is, healing in such patients is faster than in patients with wound closure with classic suture material or laser. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: When comparing the methods of approximation of postoperative oral mucosa wounds by different methods, based on the results of these inflammatory and immunological parameters, the best results were obtained when using electric welding of tissues. Further research and use of the proposed method will facilitate and shorten the rehabilitation period of patients after surgery.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To determine the effect of laser irradiation of different spectrum on the expression of neuronal proteins (GFAP, S100, NSE and NF-L) in the sciatic nerve during its regeneration after crossing and surgical suturing. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The experiment was performed on 60 laboratory rats of the Wistar line (200-250 g) with crossing of the left sciatic nerve and sutur¬ing with an epineural suture end to end 30 minutes after neurotomy. 90 days later, an immunohistochemical study was performed using specific antibodies (Thermo Fisher Scientific; USA). RESULTS: Results: A study of the marker of non-myelin Schwann GFAP cells showed their pronounced activation with germination in nerve thickness and the formation of weaves of processes around regenerated nerve fibers. The number of S-100-positive myelin Schwann cells decreased, the heterogeneity of their color and the loss of processes were determined. It showed a general decrease in the intensity of NSE- and NF-L-positive staining of nerve fibers regenerated after neurotomy, which was less pronounced when irradiated with a laser with a wavelength of 450-480 nm and 520 nm. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: In general, the use of laser radiation had a positive effect on the repair of nerve fibers after neurotomy. According to the immunohistochemical study of neuromarkers, the effect of laser irradiation of the blue spectrum was the most effective.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To determine the peculiarities of the structural organization of the utriculus prostaticus (UP) in pre-fetuses and fetuses. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study of macroscopic features and microscopic peculiarities of the prostate gland and the prostatic part of the urethra was carried out on 46 sections of human pre-fetuses and fetuses aged from 9 weeks to birth (31,0-375,0 mm PCL). The work uses the method of microscopic study of serial histological and topographic-anatomical specimens of the prostate gland, as well as the method of the thin preparation of the prostate part of the urethra in fetuses of different ages and morphometry. RESULTS: Results: In 58,0-66,0 mm PCL fetuses the paramesonephric ducts are reduced, except of their connected caudal part, which is a morphological substrate for the development of the UP. At 72,0-79,0 mm PCL fetuses, cavity is replaced by cellular mass. At the 85,0-120,0 mm PCL fetuses, the UP connects with the lumen of the urethra. The cavity of the UP intensivelly proliferates with cells. In fetuses of 125,0-135,0 mm PCL is presente dense arrangement of glandular elements, which are surrounded by fibrous-muscular membrane. In fetuses of 150,0-160,0 mm PCL, in the caudal direction, the cavity of the UP gradually narrows, it forms invaginations, especially in the middle and lower parts, or is divided into separate, interconnected chambers. In fetuses of 170,0-185,0 mm PCL, UP has elongated-oval or rounded-oval shape. In the caudal direction, the UP is directed ventral to the colliculus seminalis and is located slightly anterior and superior to the ejaculatory ducts. In 8-month-old fetuses, the lumen of the UP is lined with a pseudostratified cubical epithelium, outside of which there is a tunica muscularis. Ejaculatory ducts lined with a two-layer cuboidal epithelium are placed on both sides of the UP. A 270,0 mm PCL fetus has no UP at the apex of the colliculus seminalis. In fetuses 315,0-335,0 mm PCL, the process of cavity formation spreads to new areas of glandular formations of the prostate gland and their final branches. Most of the glandular formations open into the prostatic part of the urethra directly below the UP and the distal parts of the ejaculatory ducts. Microscopic examination of frontal sections of the prostate gland of a fetus with a 360,0 mm PCL revealed a septum in the UP which divides the cavity of the UP into the right and left halves of a round-oval shape. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The formation of utriculus prostaticus occurs from the paramesonephric ducts in the 11th week of fetal development. At the beginning of the 4th month of intrauterine development, it gradually decreases in size. From the middle of the 5th month of prenatal development, the utriculus prostaticus lengthens, and starting from the fetus of 7 months, both its length and width increase. At the end of the fetal period, the utriculus prostaticus acquires a round-oval shape, its length increases from 0,5 to 4,3 mm during prenatal ontogeny.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the state of oxidation processes and morphological changes in the heart of castrated rats during the development of epinephrine heart damage (EHD). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods. The study was performed on 120 white male Wistar rats. The animals were divided into four series: 1 - control, 2 - castration. For EHD, rats were injected once intraperitoneally with a 0.18% solution of adrenaline hydrotartrate at the rate of 0.5 mg/kg of weight. Castration was performed under anesthesia. The concentration of diene and triene conjugates (DC, TC), Schiff's bases (SB), TBA-active products (TBA-ap), oxidatively modi"ed proteins (OMP), activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were determined in the heart. A morphological study of preparations stained with Azantrichrome was carried out. All studies were performed in control, 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days after adrenaline injection. RESULTS: Results: In the I series DC and TC increased after 1 day of EHD, fell to control values after 3 days, and then had wave-like character (highest - after 14 days). SB decreased (minimal after 7 days), TBA-ap increase (maximal after 14 days). OMP370 increased after 1 and 3 days, after 7 days they did not differ from the control, after 14 days they were higher than in control, and after 28 days they decreased to the control values. OMP430 and OMP530were greater than the control indicators in all terms, except the last; the maximum was noted after 14 days. The activity of antioxidant enzymes was lower than the control indicators at all times of the study. Castration caused an increase of lipid peroxidation. After 7 days, DC and TC, were lower and SB - higher, than in the I series. Castration caused a decrease in OMP. In EHD all values of OMP, compared to the castrated control rats, were higher at all studed times Castration leads to increase of SOD, and decrase of CAT. All indicators of SOD and CAT exceeded the indicators of animals of the I series at all times of the study. Biochemical changes are consistent with morphological changes. After injection of epinephrine, severe vascular disorders, adventitia edema, perivasal edema, endothelial cell damage, dilatation of hemicapillaries, full blood vessels, stasis, hemorrhages in the surrounding tissues, and sclerosing of the walls of arteries and venules were observed. Cardiomyocytes were swollen, shortening, necrosis was observed, myocytolysis was noted. Edema of the stroma was noted. In the stroma, around the vessels, located cells of connective tissue elements were observed. Indicate more damage to the myocardium in the process of development of EHD in animals of the I series. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Castration of rats causes an increase of lipid peroxidation products and CAT activity in the heart, but a decrease in the content of OMP. Adrenaline injection causes activation of lipid peroxidation and an increase in the content of OMP. During the development of EHD, the activity of antioxidants is significantly higher in II group. Biochemical changes are consistent with morphological, and indicate more damage to the myocardium in the development of EHD in animals of the I series.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study is comparative assessment of the main risks of the global burden of cancer in the total burden of death. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: A comparative assessment of the main risks of the global burden of cancer within the overall burden of deaths was carried out based on the data of the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD), data from the Center for Medical Statistics of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the National Cancer Registry of Ukraine. The methods of comparative analysis, systematic approach and system analysis, bibliosemantic and medical-statistical methods were used. RESULTS: Results: Higher attributable risk of death in most nosological forms of cancer among the population of Ukraine (bronchial, tracheal and lung cancer, laryn-geal, pharyngeal, lip and esophageal cancer) have been observed. Behavioral factors at the level of Ukraine, compared to the world level, are characterized by signi!cantly higher rates of attributable risk with regard to tobacco smoking (cancer of the larynx, pharynx, lower lip, esophagus) and alcohol consumption (pharynx, liver, lower lip). Environmental and occupational factors in Ukraine do not exceed the global exposure rates, and are lower for some cancer nosol-ogies, namely bronchial, tracheal, lung and laryngeal cancer. Unlike global trends, metabolic factors prevail among the mortality risks of patients with liver, esophageal, uterine and kidney cancer in Ukraine. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Behavioral, occupational, environmental and metabolic risk factors for cancer mortality have high attributable risk. Behavioral risk factors for cancer mortality have the most pronounced impact both globally and in Ukraine, and notably, for the majority of nosological forms of cancer in Ukraine mortality risks are higher compared to the global data.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To find out the sources of origin, the chronology of ossification, the peculiarities of age-related topographical and anatomical changes in the bones of the human orbit. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The research was carried out on the specimens of 18 human embryos and prefetuses aged from 4th to 12th weeks of intrauterine development and 12 human fetuses aged from 4th to 9th months which were studied by microscopic examination and 3D reconstruction. RESULTS: Results: The first signs of osteogenesis around the main nervous and visceral contents of the orbit rudiment are observed in 6-week-old embryos in the form of seven cartilaginous bone models. The first signs of ossification in the region of the orbit are found in the maxilla. During the 6th month of intrauterine development, intensive processes of ossification of the frontal, sphenoidal, ethmoidal bones and maxilla are noticeable. From the beginning of the fetal pe¬riod of human ontogenesis, the ossification of bone rudiments that form the walls of the orbit continues. The processes of ossification of the structures of the sphenoidal bone continue, which leads to morphological transformations of the orbit in 5-month-old fetuses - it is separated from the sphenopalatine and infratemporal fossae by a bone layer, the optic canal is formed, and in 6-month-old fetuses, processes of ossification of the frontal, sphenoidal and ethmoidal bones and maxilla occur, Müller's muscle changes its structure to a fibrous one. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Critical periods of the orbit development are the 6th month of prenatal ontogenesis and the 8th month.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Aim: Using quantitative morphological methods to study the peculiarities of the structural reconstruction of the venous bad of the prostate at the conditions of post-resection portal hypertension. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: Morphologically, the venous bed of the prostate of 15 intact white rats, 30 animals with post-resection portal hypertension, 17 rats with a combination of post-resection portal hypertension with hepatargia, enteral, cardiac, and renal insufficiency was studied. Rats were slaughtered one month after the start of the experiment by bloodletting under general thiopental anesthesia. Morphometry of the venous blood vessels of the prostate gland was performed on histological specimens, during which the diameter of the postcapillary venules, the diameter of the venules, the external diameter of the venous vessels, the internal diameter of the venous vessels, the thickness of the wall of the venous vessels was determined. Also it was studied the height of endothelial cells, diameter of their nuclei, nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio in these cells, relative volume of damaged endothelial cells, density of vessels of microcirculatory bed per 1 mm² of prostate tissue. RESULTS: Results: It was found that resection of the left and right lobes of the liver leads to the development of postresection portal hypertension and pronounced remodeling of the vessels of the venous bed of the prostate gland, which was characterized by the expansion of the capillary venules of the prostate by 36.5%, with the occurrence of multiple organ failure by 38.5% (р<0.001 ), an increase in the lumen of veins, thinning of their wall, atrophy, dystrophy, and necrobiosis of endothelial cells, disruption of structural cellular homeostasis, endothelial dysfunction, hypoxia, dystrophic-necrotic changes in cells, stromal structures, infiltration, and sclerosis. Morphological changes in the structures of the prostate dominated when post-resection portal hypertension was combined with multiple organ failure. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Post-resection portal hypertension in laboratory sexually mature white male rats leads to pronounced remodeling of the venous bed of the prostate gland, which is characterized by the expansion of the lumen of the vessels, thinning of their walls, atrophic, dystrophic and necrobiotic changes in endothelial cells, a violation of structural cellular homeostasis in them, endothelial dysfunction, hypoxia, dystrophic-necrotic changes in cells, stromal structures, infiltration and sclerosis. Morphological changes in the structures of the prostate dominated when post-resection portal hypertension was combined with multiple organ failure.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To analyse the results of the delayed acetabulum posterior wall fractures treatment and to identify the negative factors affecting the outcome. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The patients' treatment results have been assessed in 5 years after the surgery. The surgery was performed in 21 to 120 days after the injury, 44±11 days on average. 23 individuals (19 men and 4 women) were included in the retrospective analysis. RESULTS: Results: Anatomical fracture reposition was achieved in 12 (52.2%) cases, imperfect but satisfactory reposition - in 7 (30.4%) cases. 4 (17.4%) cases resulted in unsatisfactory reposition. Hip arthroplasty was performed in 5 patients over the following 5 years. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The delayed fractures of the acetabulum posterior wall (21 to 120 days after the injury) is the complicated task for a surgeon. The aseptic necrosis and deforming arthrosis were found in 1-5 years after treatment. The preparation for the anatomical reposition takes a big amount of time and effort from the orthopedic team because of technical peculiarities.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim is to investigate changes in the microbiota of dental biofilm at the end of the eighth, tenth and twelfth weeks of experimental opioid exposure. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study was performed on 36 white outbred adult male rats, which were injected with the opioid analgesic nalbuphine in increasing doses (0,212 - 0,3 mg / kg) during 8, 10 and 12 weeks. Qualitative and quantitative composition of microbiota of dental biofilm was studied using statistical analysis. RESULTS: Results: After eight weeks of opioid exposure, changes in microbiocenosis of dental biofilm of rats were caused by a significant increase in saprophytic and opportunistic microbiota and an appearance of pathogenic species of indicator microbiota with potential periodontopathogenic action. At the end of the tenth week, a significant increase in the quantitative indicators of certain species of opportunistic microbiota and increase in the quantitative composition of pathogenic bacteria were determined. After twelve week of opioid exposure, a significant increase in the quantitative indicators of pathogenic microbiota of dental biofilm was detected. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Changes in the qualitative and quantitative composition of the microbiocenosis of the dental biofilm at the end of 8, 10 and 12 weeks of opioid exposure were established, they were manifested by a significant increase in the quantitative indicators of certain species of opportunistic microorganisms and a significant increase in pathogenic microbiota in the dynamics, which led to the progression of dysbiotic changes and purulent-inflammatory process in the oral cavity of rats.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To analyse the value priorities of first-year medical students and outline areas of educational work to develop a system of professional values of future doctors who are able to work in circumstances of challenges of the time, as well as military conflicts. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The method of questionnaires involving the students of Ternopil National Medical University from Ukraine and India was used, as well as the method of content analysis of students' creative work. At the final stage of the study, essays written by Ukrainian first-year students on the day of the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 were analysed. RESULTS: Results: The desire to help people was the motive to enter a medical university for the majority of both Ukrainian and international students. Besides, Ukrainians identified civic values that are important in wartime: unity, national consciousness, struggle. In their opinion, the first day of the war determined the splash of anti-values: panic, fear, confusion. However, a similar study conducted ten days after the start of the war showed increase of confidence in victory, the levelling of negative emotions among Ukrainians. Therefore, the issue of the dynamics of values in wartime should be studied more. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: Institutions of higher medical education should maintain a high intrinsic motivation of students in their altruistic striving to serve people, and improve the adaptation of first-year students, especially international ones. In wartime, it is necessary to intensify the educational work regarding ethical and spiritual development for strengthening the psychological well-being of students.
